The Inspiration:

When I first moved to Texas, my Louisiana heart struggled to find beauty in this new, unfamiliar landscape. I was blind to the stunning Hill Country, the blooming cacti, & the wildflowers that paint the fields.

But, my husband, a true Texan through & through, showed me the magic I was missing, & I’m so grateful for it. He’s taken me camping & traveling throughout the great state & onward, & he’s opened my eyes to something I otherwise would have overlooked. And now, our daughter gets to experience that same joy & appreciation.

I created this collection of pen & ink stippling drawings as an homage to the surrounding beauty I’ve witnessed for almost 15 years, & I can’t wait to release the “Westbound” toile scarf & collection to the world so soon!

Toile de Jouy:

Growing up, my mom adorned my bedroom in a beautiful yellow & blue Toile fabric. I remember tracing each delicate motif on my bedspread with my fingers as I drifted off to sleep—it was a pattern that captivated me even from a young age.

Fast forward to today, and it’s no surprise that I felt inspired to incorporate this traditional design into my work. A little history lesson: Toile de Jouy originated in 18th-century France, known for its intricate scenes of animals, people, and pastoral landscapes. I’ve taken this timeless style and added my own modern twist, blending the elegance of Toile with the rustic charm of the Texas Hill Country that I’ve grown to love over the past 15 years.

My Westbound Toile Scarf features hand-drawn scenes in pen and ink stippling of the region: agave and cacti, a cozy log cabin, a classic windmill, and a heartfelt image of my husband fishing in a lake. Each element was carefully created in pen and ink, then vectorized into a Toile pattern. To bring it all together, I added a soft watercolor wash to the paintings, which will also be available for purchase alongside the scarves.

I’m so excited to share this collection with you!
